Renee Gastelum

Taiwanese-Hispanic organist Renee Chiu uses music to build bridges across cultures and across continents. Her research areas of interest include organ music by Taiwanese composers, the development of music notation in China, and the implementation of music education into trauma aftercare programs. 

She created and directs music programs for refugees in Provo, Utah and victims of domestic abuse in Hualien, Taiwan. In addition to creating the Renee Chiu Music Foundation 501(c)3, Renee earned her Bachelor’s and Master’s of Organ Performance degrees from Brigham Young University. Her teachers include Dr. Don Cook, Dr. Neil Harmon, and Harold Stuart. Renee became a Colleague of the American Guild of Organists at the age of 19 and an Associate of the same organization at the age of 22. 

This fall, Renee will begin her Doctor of Musical Arts Degree of Music Teaching and Learning at the University of Southern California. She grew up in the San Francisco Bay Area.
